Denmark's DAT seeks used ATRs, A320s for fleet renewal
DAT - Danish Air Transport (Kolding) is looking to acquire used ATR - Avions de Transport Régional turboprops and Airbus A320 family jets to replace ageing aircraft, but has no plans to expand its fleet, CEO Jesper Rungholm told Air Transport World (ATW) on the sidelines of the European Regions Airline Association general assembly...
DAT - Danish Air Transport (Kolding) is looking to acquire used ATR - Avions de Transport Régional turboprops and Airbus A320 family jets to replace ageing aircraft, but has no plans to expand its fleet, CEO Jesper Rungholm told Air Transport World (ATW) on the sidelines of the European Regions Airline Association general assembly in Belfast last week.
"We are looking at fleet renewal," he said. "We are buying anything [ATRs and Airbuses] that comes up with the right price tag."
He said DAT is only looking at used aircraft: "We have a number of very old aircraft [ATRs] that need to be retired in the next three to five years," he said. "We may actually have the oldest ATR in the world, in production serial number 36."
He said a pair of A320s will be retired over the next two years and will need replacing. If well-priced A321s come up, DAT could opt for the larger variant.
"Let's put it this way: If somebody comes with an aircraft that is really, really nice and the price is absolutely perfect, we'll buy it whether we need it or not," he clarified.
Beyond this, Rungholm has no plans to expand the carrier's fleet. "We're not looking to grow," he said. "We are quite happy as it is, but we need fleet replacement."

Kenyan cabinet approves $350mn financing for Kenya Airways

Kenya's Cabinet has approved USD350 million in shareholder financing for Kenya Airways (KQ, Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta) to meet urgent financial obligations, including aircraft maintenance and returning grounded aircraft to service, according to a Cabinet statement.
The funding will be disbursed in tranches under National Treasury oversight, with a repayment period of up to 10 years and the possibility of conversion into equity, subject to the necessary approvals, the October 9, 2026 statement said.
The cabinet also endorsed the proposed conversion of KES122 billion shilling (USD940.6 million), plus accrued interest, in existing government loans into an equity-qualifying tradable instrument. The measure is intended to strengthen the airline's balance sheet and support future capital raising.
The implementation remains subject to the necessary corporate, shareholder and regulatory approvals.
"The measures form part of Kenya Airways' long-term turnaround plan and are intended to safeguard an airline that contributes more than USD1.3 billion annually to Kenya’s GDP through tourism, trade and regional connectivity," the statement said.
Kenya Airways confirmation
In a separate statement, Kenya Airways acting group managing director and CEO, Habil Waswani, confirmed the funding would address the airline's "immediate recapitalisation, liquidity, and balance sheet restructuring requirements".
He said the shareholder loan would enable the airline to meet critical, immediate, and non-deferrable operational obligations including aircraft maintenance and the return to service of grounded aircraft.
"The proposed conversion is intended to restore the company from its current negative equity position to a positive equity position, strengthen its balance sheet and creditworthiness, support the company's planned long-term capital raise initiatives to be undertaken through the market by way of an investment memorandum, and facilitate the full capital raise process as well as the onboarding of suitable strategic partners and investors," he elaborated.
The backstory
The state financing comes as Kenya Airways seeks at least USD1.5 billion in fresh capital from a strategic investor to support its turnaround. The process was targeted for completion by December 2026, while the airline's chairman indicated in August that the fundraising could conclude in the first quarter of 2027.
The government's stake in the Nairobi Securities Exchange-listed airline rose to 50.1% in 2026 following the winding up of its employee share ownership scheme.
The airline earlier indicated it intends to have its grounded fleet reactivated by early 2027.
About a third of Kenya Airways' fleet, totalling eleven out of 34 aircraft, is currently grounded, including two long-haul B787-8s, according to ch-aviation data.

Phenix Jet Cayman adds first Global 8000, to add 2nd in 1Q27

Phenix Jet Cayman (CPJ, Grand Cayman Island) has added its first Global 8000 and expects to take delivery of a second aircraft of the type in the first quarter of 2027, the company announced, following plans outlined in mid-2024 for two Global 8000s to be delivered in 2026.
Phenix Jet Cayman's first Global 8000 is a 2025-built aircraft, registered in the Cayman Islands as VP-CUU (msn 70253) in early September. The ultra-long-range jet became active on September 10 with a flight between Hartford Bradley and Boston under the company's 'CPJ' code, followed by a sector to Tokyo Haneda. The jet has since operated primarily out of Bangkok Don Mueang.
This Global 8000 was originally registered in the United States as N123AB and delivered to United States-based financial institution Beal Bank in March. Based at Dallas Love Field, the aircraft remained active until late June before ferrying to Hartford Bradley on August 24. Beal Bank continues to operate a 2006-built Global Express XRS.
Currently, four aircraft actively operate under Phenix Jet Cayman's 'CPJ' code, including the newly inducted Global 8000, a Global 7500, following the retirement of another unit in late 2025, a B737-700(BBJ), and a G280 added in mid-2026.
Phenix Jet Cayman is part of United States-based Phenix Jet, whose Part 135 certificate comprises a Global 6000, a Global 6500, five Global 7500s, a G550, a G650(ER), and two G650ERs.
Both Phenix Jet and Phenix Jet Cayman privately manage other aircraft and are owned by Japan-based Sojitz Corporation, which announced in late 2025 an order for two brand-new Global-series jets, namely a Global 6500 and a Global 8000, for deployment under a fractional ownership programme.

Four Corners Aviation (ULA, Dallas Addison) has been rebranded as Mente Aviation as part of a broader consolidation plan by sister company Mente Group to bring all aviation businesses under a unified brand structure. Under the strategy, a single website will serve both Mente Aviation and Mente Group, with Mente Aviation receiving a new logo and Mente Group adopting a slightly modified one.
“Mente has built significant recognition and credibility in business aviation, so it makes sense to put the full strength of the company behind the name that resonates in the marketplace,” said Brian Proctor, founder, president, and CEO of Mente Group. Mente Aviation provides aircraft management and charter services. The company's Part 135-certified fleet currently comprises a Learjet 45XR, a Phenom 300E, and two G650ERs.
