Pacific Wings (Kahului) has confirmed it is in the process of abandoning its scheduled passenger network in Hawaii with the move expected to be complete by July 15. The Hawaiian-based operator had used two Cessna Grand Caravans to service Kaunakakai, Kamuela and Kona from Kahului and Kaunakakai from Honolulu. However, Pacific Wings has confirmed that the shutdown would not affect its regional operations on the US mainland where it operates as New Mexico Airlines (Albuquerque International). With Island Air (Hawaii) (Honolulu) phasing out its fleet of three Dash 8-100s in favour of larger ATR72-200s, whose larger size will preclude them from operating to airfields such as Kapalua on West Maui, the shutdown of Pacific Wings will effectively leave Mokulele Airlines (MHO, Kona) as the only scheduled operator capable of serving Hawaii's smaller, inaccessible airstrips.
