Maiduguri International Airport, located in Nigeria's troubled north-eastern Borno State, is set to reopen to commercial traffic following its closure in December 2013 on account of the Boko Haram insurgency.
Air Marshall Olusola Amosu of the Nigerian Air Force (NGR, Lagos) said the Nigeria Airport Management Authority (NAMA) had asked to reopen the facility to regular air traffic between 06h00L and 18h00L.
Arik Air (W3, Lagos) was the last scheduled operator to serve the town back in 2013 offering flights to the national capital, Abuja.
The Nigerian military has begun moving its headquarters to Maiduguri where it will partner Chad, Niger, and Cameroon in the ongoing battle against the extremist group which has pledged allegiance to Islamic State.
