Austrian Airlines (OS, Vienna) has temporarily suspended its 3x weekly flights to the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, until February 12, at the very least. According to AustrianAviation.net, no official explanation for the suspension was given other than "operational measures." Baghdad has experienced a resurgence in violence in recent weeks with Baghdad International Airport among the targets. In late January, two rockets were fired at the airport, ostensibly by Al Qaeda-backed Sunni Islamist rebels, hitting a runway and a parked Iraqi Airways (IA, Baghdad) A320-200, YI-ARB (cn 5290).
