KLM Cityhopper (WA, Amsterdam Schiphol) is studying proposals from ATR - Avions de Transport Régional (EVX, Toulouse Blagnac), Bombardier Aerospace (BBA, Montréal Trudeau), Embraer (EMB, São José dos Campos U.E. Stumpf International) and Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation (Nagoya Chubu) as potential replacements for its outgoing fleet of twenty-three Fokker 70s.
In its report, AirTransportWorld said a decision on the winner of the contract will be made by the end of the year.
In mid-2013, the KLM Royal Dutch Airlines (KL, Amsterdam Schiphol) subsidiary leased an additional six E190s as part of its strategic plan to replace the oldest aircraft in its Fokker 70 fleet, which now averages 18.3 years of age.
The departure of the F70s will mark the end of the airline's Fokker Aircraft (Woensdrecht) operations. In 2009, cityhopper concluded the sale of its last fifteen Fokker 100s while in 2010, it retired its last Fokker 50 from revenue service.
