Tica Air International (San José Juan Santamaría) has changed its operating name to Air Costa Rica (San José Juan Santamaría) with plans to offer charter flights from December onwards. Álvaro Vargas, the director general of the Costa Rican civil aviation authority (Dirección General de Aviación Civil - DGAC), told the local press that the Air Panama (7P, Panamá City Paitilla) subsidiary is on track to secure its Air Operator's Certificate having successfully completed the second phase of certification.
Initial scheduled services will include Managua, Miami International, San Andrés Island and Panama City airport, Balboa using a fleet of two leased B737-300s.
Fellow Costa Rican hopeful, TICOS - Líneas Aéreas de Costa Rica (San José Juan Santamaría), which is also undergoing certification, has set Los Angeles International, New York Newark, Caracas Simón Bolivar and México City International as its maiden route network.
