Aegean Airlines (A3, Athens) is among twenty foreign entities that have expressed an interest in acquiring either stock and/or assets belonging to the struggling Cyprus Airways (1947) (Larnaca). The Cypriot government recently issued a request for Expressions of Interest concerning its 93.67% stake in the carrier.

"Aegean Airlines has expressed today interest to participate in the preliminary process concerning the sale of shares or a bundle of assets of Cyprus Airways. Depending on the process to be determined by the Republic of Cyprus and following the review of all necessary facts, the Company will then decide on the next possible steps," it said in a filing to the London bourse.

Earlier this week, Ryanair (FR, Dublin International) submitted its own EoI to Larnaca followed by Blue Air (Romania) (BLA, Bucharest Henri Coanda) and Arkia Israeli Airlines (IZ, Tel Aviv Ben Gurion). Cypriot Communications Minister, Marios Demetriades, told the Cyprus Mail that so far, 25% of the companies that have submitted EoIs to his government have been related to aviation.
