Fly Romania (Bucharest Henri Coanda) has cancelled all remaining scheduled flights for this summer leaving its future in doubt. In June this year, the Ten Airways (Bucharest Baneasa) subsidiary announced it had cancelled 88 out of 138 flights over the period June 1 until June 15 owing to poor demand.
Among the individual flights cancelled included those routed from Bucharest Henri Coanda, Tulcea, and Timisoara in Romania to Antalya, Milan Bergamo, Genoa, Frankfurt Hahn, Palermo International, Reus, and Verona as well as domestic services from Otopeni to both Timisoara and Tulcea.
"Where payloads were very low, management decided not to operate those flights because they would have done so at a loss," the airline's press relations officer, Daniel Crainic, said.
According to Romanian press reports, the airline has struggled to cope with requests for refunds from irate passengers that had already booked to fly with some even considering going on a hunger strike to press home their demands.
