Germania (Berlin Schönefeld) has announced its new Swiss subsidiary, currently tentatively named Germania Flug (Zurich), will commence scheduled operations in March of next year. With its application for an Air Operators Certificate (AOC) already submitted to the Swiss Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA), the carrier has now begun hiring A320 flight crew in anticipation of the launch.

Germania says the carrier will primarily focus on the international tourist sector. The new airline is a joint venture with Germania's Swiss customer, tour operator Hotelplan. According to Swiss trade publication Travel Inside at least one A319-100 will be transferred to the Swiss subsidiary next spring and operate on leisure charter flights from Zurich.
