Air Austral (UU, St. Denis de la Réunion) is set to take delivery of a pair of "Terrible Teen" B787-8s the NYC787 blog has reported. The blog states msn 34510 will be delivered during the course of this year while the other, msn 34491, is destined to arrive next year. The ch-aviation aircraft database lists both aircraft as being powered by Trent 1000 motors.
Boeing (BOE, Washington National) lists an order for two B787-8s from an unidentified customer placed earlier this month but did not confirm it was Air Austral when contacted by ch-aviation.
As previously reported, the Réunionaise carrier is planning to partner LAM - Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique (TM, Maputo) on St. Denis de la Réunion to Lisbon via Maputo flights later this year. The Mozambican carrier, while keen to re-enter the European market, has been unable to do so since 2011 when the country was blacklisted by the European Commission.
