Citywing (Isle of Man) has approached the parliament of the most northerly of the Channel Islands, Alderney, with plans to begin daily flights from Alderney to fellow Channel isles Guernsey and Jersey as well as Southampton on the British mainland and Cherbourg in France.

ITV reports that while the venture would register annual losses of around GBP624,000 (USD931,513), it would create additional employment for groundhandling crews stationed at the remote airfield. Currently, Aurigny Air Services (GR, Guernsey) is the only scheduled operator there offering flights to Guernsey and Southampton.

The Policy & Finance Committee of the States of Alderney will be holding a special meeting on April 14 to consider the proposal.

For its part, Citywing is a virtual carrier which charters Let 410s from VAN AIR Europe (V9, Brno) for its flights to Belfast City, Glasgow International, Gloucestershire, Newcastle, GB, and, effective April 1, Blackpool.
