Greenland Express (Aalborg) has delayed its planned re-launch date from May 11 to June 14 at the earliest as it battles to secure all necessary permits in time. In a letter to customers who had already booked their flights, the carrier said the Danish Transport Authority (Trafikstyrelsen) had yet to issue it with a permit needed to operate scheduled passenger flights between Denmark and Greenland.

"It is a risk we do not want to take with our passengers. It is essential for us that our passengers have the opportunity to find alternative means of travel in time as possible. We have therefore today (Wednesday, April l2) decided to cancel all flights between Denmark and Greenland, from the originally planned start date of May 11 until June 14, 2015, inclusive," it said.

The virtual carrier added that it had filed an urgent request with the Trafikstyrelsen to deal with their application as expeditiously as possible in order to meet their revised June launch date. It did, however, label the body's work as 'sluggish' and 'vitiated'.

Its third attempt at sustainable longterm operations, Greenland Express plans to offer flights from its Billund base to Kangerlussuaq and Narsarsuaq using A320 Family aircraft chartered from an unknown operator. It has also been granted domestic Greenlandic traffic rights alongside fellow start-up, Aluu Airlines (Nuuk).
