Avianca Brasil (São Paulo Congonhas) is scheduled to join Star Alliance on July 22 the director of the airline's international division, Ian Gillespie, has told Brazilian tourism magazine, Panrotas.
Though sister carrier Avianca (Bogotá) joined the alliance in June 2012, talks for the Brazilian unit to join only got underway in late 2013.
In the same interview, Gillespie revealed that Avianca Brasil's fleet of ten Fokker 100s would be phased out of commercial service during the second half of the year to be replaced with an incoming fleet of Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) twinjets.
