Lufthansa (LH, Frankfurt International) says it has established a Limited Liability Company - Eurowings Europe (Austria) (E2, Vienna) - in Austria to oversee the Austrian operations of its Eurowings (EW, Düsseldorf) budget subsidiary.

"The company will serve as the starting point for further growth, which will see the establishment of several more operating bases throughout the European continent," the Lufthansa Group said in a statement.

Eurowings has begun advertising for flight crew with positions being offered to existing Lufthansa personnel and to those who have completed their flight training in Bremen and are awaiting suitable vacancies. Recruitment should then be extended to outside applicants during the second half of August.

Cabin crew recruitment is slated to begin in the second half of September.

Though it is currently undergoing certification with the Austrian Federal Ministry for Transport, Innovation and Technology (BMVIT), Eurowings has set a tentative November 9 launch date for its Vienna-based subsidiary.

As previously reported, initial destinations include Barcelona El Prat, London Stansted, Palma de Mallorca and Rome Fiumicino. Operations are on-board a pair of A320-200s, wet-leased from Lufthansa subsidiary Austrian Airlines (OS, Vienna), the first of which is due this winter while the other will arrive in March 2016.
