Sol Líneas Aéreas (Rosario Islas Malvinas) will begin jet operations in October following the delivery of its first of six CRJ200s on lease from Air Nostrum (YW, Valencia Manises). The remaining five are scheduled to arrive in November (one), January 2016 (two), and March 2016 (two).
According to the Aeropuertos Argentinos site, the aircraft will be used to open up flights from Buenos Aires Jorge Newbery to Mar del Plata, Bahia Blanca, Trelew and Comodoro Rivadavia. As part of its codeshare agreement with Aerolíneas Argentinas (AR, Buenos Aires Jorge Newbery), Sol will deploy the jets on some of the national carrier's less profitable routes - Ushuaia-Rio Gallegos-Rio Grande Hermes Quijada among others.
Sol currently operates an all-turboprop fleet of two Saab 340As and two Saab 340Bs.
For its part, this is Air Nostrum's second lease contract in South America following last week's announcement that it would partner Bolivia's Amaszonas (Z8, La Paz El Alto) in launching Amaszonas Paraguay (Asuncion).
