Citilink (QG, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta) is considering the possibility of upgauging its fleet of A320s and B737s to include larger aircraft CEO Albert Burhan has said.

Speaking at the CAPA Asia Aviation Summit, Burhan said given its reliance on the A320-200, the Garuda Indonesia (GA, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta) subsidiary is studying the larger A321 as a means of boosting its overall capacity.

“Because of the slot constraints we need to be able to increase capacity, one of the options is by way of bigger aircraft but we want to stick to one type,” he said. “A321s could be a sensible option but we’ll see.”

He added that Citilink is currently weighing up its options insofar as ordering either the A321ceo or neo is concerned. Though the A321ceo would be available sooner, the A321neo will also feature a Long Range variant which could prove useful in Citilink's longterm network expansion plans - Melbourne Tullamarine and Sydney Kingsford Smith in Australia as well as northern and eastern China in particular.

Currently, the LCC operates thirty-four A320-200s, one B737-300 and three B737-500s on flights to twenty-seven destinations throughout Indonesia.
