Ryanair (FR, Dublin International) has confirmed plans to enter the Romanian market - both internationally and domestically - with the establishment of a base in Timisoara during the last quarter of the year.

The Irish LCC says it plans to base a single B737-800 out of the western Romanian city with flights offered to Milan Bergamo, Berlin Schönefeld, Brussels Charleroi, Düsseldorf Weeze, Frankfurt Hahn, London Stansted and Bucharest Henri Coanda effective November 1.

“We are pleased to open our first Romanian base at Timisoara Airport from November, as we invest $100m in the Banat region with 1 based aircraft, a double daily service to Bucharest and 6 international routes to Berlin, Brussels Charleroi, Dusseldorf Weeze, Frankfurt Hahn, London Stansted and Milan Bergamo, which will deliver 575,000 customers p.a. and support 430 jobs at Timisoara Airport," Ryanair’s Chief Commercial Officer, David O’Brien, said.

Timisoara is already a base for rival LCC Wizz Air (W6, Budapest) which, at present, is the airfield's largest operator commanding 59.14% of its weekly capacity.
