Azul Linhas Aéreas Brasileiras (AD, São Paulo Viracopos) has unveiled Recife as its north-east Brazilian hub. Effective next month, the LCC will add twelve more Brazilian cities to the Atlantic seaboard metropolis' network including:
- João Pessoa Castro Pinto International (from February 22);
- Belém International and Ilheus (both from March 22);
- Campina Grande Joao Suassuna (from March 29);
- Porto Seguro and São Paulo Congonhas (from April 2).
More frequencies will also be added to existing routes to Brasília Juscelino Kubitschek International, São Paulo Guarulhos,Juazeiro do Norte, Goiania, Curitiba International, Petrolina, Presidente Prudente A. De Barros, Natal Aluizio Alves and Fortaleza International.
The announcement follows nearly twelve months of negotiations between Azul management and the Pernambuco state government.
As previously reported, TAM Linhas Aéreas (São Paulo Congonhas) is currently considering Recife, alongside Natal Aluizio Alves and Fortaleza International, for its proposed northeastern hub. A decision is expected before July.
