Monarch Airlines (1968) (London Luton) chief executive Andrew Swaffield says the UK leisure operator is looking to acquire other carriers and is not itself looking to be acquired.

According to Reuters, while Swaffield did confirm interest from several undisclosed third parties, he dispelled any notion of a sale.

"We've got our eyes open on potential acquisitions that we might be able to make ourselves with Greybull's support and we haven't denied the fact that there has been interest in us from potential acquirers," he said. "But the 'For Sale' sign is not up and as far as we're concerned, our focus is on delivering a successful and sustainable profitable business."

His comments come after several UK papers reported interest in Monarch from China's HNA Group and easyJet (London Luton) among others. In turn Monarch has been linked to interest in Air Berlin (1991) (Berlin Tegel), TUIfly, and Thomas Cook Airlines.
