United Airlines (UA, Chicago O'Hare) is set to pull out of the African market with effect from next month.

The US carrier will discontinue its daily Houston Intercontinental-Lagos, Nigeria service, operated using B787-8 equipment, with effect from June 30. The move is in response to a decline in the petroleum market as well as difficulties in expatriating ticket revenue.

Delta Air Lines (DL, Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson) is the only one of the US Big Four legacy carriers to serve the US-Africa market offering regular flights to Johannesburg O.R. Tambo, Lagos, Accra, and Dakar Yoff-Léopold Sédar Senghor International.
