Air North (4N, Whitehorse International) has taken delivery of its first of two ex-First Air (Carp) ATR - Avions de Transport Régional (EVX, Toulouse Blagnac) turboprops following the unveiling of C-FTJB (cn 119) at a ceremony at Whitehorse International on June 2.
With the arrival of the second later this summer, the ATR42-300(QC)s will begin commercial operations in autumn and will be used primarily on Air North's northern route to Dawson City, Old Crow, and Inuvik. The ATRs will replace the BAe 748 that is currently used on the route.
"The Hawkers continue to serve us well, but we need to make long-term plans to modernize our turboprop operation so that we can continue to provide safe and comfortable service to passengers on our northern route, well into the future," Air North Director of Flight Operations, Ryan Kinney, said. "The ATR is an ideal fit for that need."
In addition to the new ATRs, Air North operates three Hawker-Siddeley BAe 748s and five B737 Classics including one B737-200(M), one B737-400, and three B737-500s. A further B737-500 is scheduled to enter service in July.
