GOL Linhas Aéreas Inteligentes (G3, São Paulo Congonhas) has begun placing some of its surplus capacity with equity holder Delta Air Lines (DL, Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson) Skyliner Aviation has reported.
Thus far, B737-800s PR-GXK (msn 39624) and PR-GXO (msn 39632) have been ferried to North America where they are currently awaiting induction into the US carrier's fleet. A further three aircraft are expected to be delivered in the near future. Nine B737NextGens have also been dry-leased to Transavia Airlines (HV, Amsterdam Schiphol) in Europe for the summer season.
On the back of the Brazilian economic downturn, Gol and other local airlines have struggled to cope with waning consumer demand, excess capacity, and lower yields.
Of Gol's fleet of thirty-five B737-700s, three are currently parked while four of its ninety B737-800s are also in storage.
