Sichuan Airlines (3U, Chengdu Shuangliu) has secured US regulatory clearance to commence scheduled passenger flights to the US West Coast later this quarter.
The US Department of Transportation (DOT) said in a statement that it had agreed to issue the China Southern Airlines (CZ, Guangzhou) subsidiary exemption authority while tentatively agreeing to issue it a Foreign Air Carrier Permit (FACP).
Sichuan Airlines had asked that its application be expedited in light of plans to start Chengdu Shuangliu-Hangzhou-Los Angeles International and Chengdu-Jinan-Los Angeles Int'l flights from September of this year onwards. In addition, it also announced plans to start regular flights from various points around China to Guam International as well as Saipan in the Northern Mariana Islands.
