Emirates (EK, Dubai International) has added an additional sector to its Dubai International-Abuja, Nigeria-Dubai Int'l route amid an ongoing jetfuel shortage in Nigeria.

The carrier said in a statement that since August 18 and until September 7, the return sector to Dubai has incorporated a technical stop in Accra, Ghana to allow the operating B777-200(ER) to take on additional fuel.

Airlines serving Nigeria have been facing difficulties obtaining aviation fuel owing to a shortage of US dollars on the official market. Despite being Africa's largest exporter of petroleum products, Nigeria has to import refined Jet A1 from neighbouring countries owing to the dilapidated state of its own infrastructure.
