Edelweiss Air (WK, Zurich) is reportedly considering flying between Zurich and Honolulu. Should the flights be launched it would make it the only airline to link Europe and Hawaii with a nonstop service.
According to a report by Swiss paper Schweiz am Sonntag, Honolulu Airport and the Swiss tourism authority are in discussions over the potential service given that some 140,000 Europeans travel to the US state annually, including 43,000 from Germany and 16,000 from Switzerland.
The airline will take delivery of the first of three former Swiss (LX, Zurich) A340-300 next month, which could operate flights from Zurich to Honolulu nonstop using a trans-polar routing. However, weight restrictions would likely have to be applied. San José Juan Santamaría will become the longest route in Edelweiss’ network once it is launched in May next year.
