PIA - Pakistan International Airlines (PK, Islamabad International) has suspended some flights to Pakistan's northern provinces amid escalating tensions with India over the nearby disputed Jammu & Kashmir region.

Local media reports state the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PkCAA) closed off airspace in the area on Monday for the third time in five days thus affecting PIA's flights from Islamabad International to Gilgit and Skardu.

No official reason for the airspace closure has been given although several airports in the Gilgit-Baltistan region do operate as dual civilian and military facilities.

Indian President Narendra Modi has publicly blamed Pakistan for a September 18 attack on an Indian army camp in Kashmir which claimed the lives of eighteen Indian soldiers.
