US-based global logistics giant UPS has announced the placement of a firm order with Boeing (BOE, Washington National) for fourteen B747-8(F)s. The agreement also includes options for fourteen additional aircraft of the same type.

“These aircraft are a strategic investment for increased capacity for UPS customers around the globe,” said Brendan Canavan, president, UPS Airlines (5X, Louisville International). “The 747-8 will allow UPS to upsize our network in both new and existing markets.”

The fourteen aircraft are to be delivered between 2017 and 2020.

UPS's mainline fleet currently entails fifty-two A300-600(F)s, thirteen B747-400(F)s, seventy-five B757-200(PF)s, fifty-nine B767-300Fs, and thirty-seven MD-11(F)s.
