Aeroflot (SU, Moscow Sheremetyevo) is in talks with several undisclosed European and Asian carriers over the possibility of forming joint-ventures airline Deputy General Director (Strategy & Alliances) Giorgio Callegari has said.

According to Aviation Week, Callegari told a European Aviation Club meeting in Brussels, that joint ventures would be a better, more efficient fit for the Russian carrier group as compared to global alliances.

It is recalled that in June 2013, the Russians were said to be considering quitting Skyteam over what they said were unfavourable agreements with other members, in particular US carrier Delta Air Lines (DL, Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson). The claims were later denied by CEO Vitaly Saveliev.

On why European and Asian firms were being targeted, Callegari said Aeroflot saw Europe as the gateway to the Americas while Asia presented the greatest economic growth potential on a global scale.
