The Kazakh government is planning to open up the country to foreign carriers for the duration of Expo 2017 to be held in Astana between June 10 and September 10, 2017.

Kazakhstan's Vice Minister for Investment and Development, Berik Kamaliev, told the Informburo news agency that the Central Asian state is looking to not only attract more carriers for the duration of the expo, but to also use the experience as a basis for future policy and route development.

CSA Czech Airlines (OK, Prague Václav Havel), Finnair (AY, Helsinki Vantaa) and Austrian Airlines (OS, Vienna) have already pledged to resume flights to Kazakhstan while talks with LOT Polish Airlines (LO, Warsaw Chopin) and Wizz Air (W6, Budapest) are currently ongoing, he said.
