Fly Viking (Tromsø) chairman and CEO Ola Giæver says the Norwegian start-up carrier has entered into talks with Russia over the possible allocation of cabotage rights.

In an interview with Luftfart news, Giæver said in return, Russia would require Fly Viking to purchase an unspecified number of SSJ 100/95s to ply the routes. Giæver added that Fly Viking has long considered the type alongside the CSeries from Bombardier Aerospace (BBA, Montréal Trudeau) as well as the Embraer Regional Jet.

At present, Fly Viking is in the process of inducting a fleet of twenty Dash 8-100s for use on domestic Norwegian flights. Giæver said he has also had contact with the mayor of the Russian Arctic city of Murmansk over the proposed launch of flights from the Norwegian Arctic outpost of Kirkenes.
