Air Djibouti (DJ, Djibouti) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with AZAL Azerbaijan Airlines (J2, Baku Heydar Aliev International) to enhance cooperation between the two carriers in the field of cargo and freight logistics.
Under the terms of the deal, signed late last month, the Djibouti national carrier will provide regional African cargo feed into an AZAL Djibouti-Baku Heydar Aliev International return service. The two have also pledged to establish a joint cargo transportation company.
The move follows an announcement in October wherein Air Djibouti said it intended to send its pilots and engineers to Azerbaijan for training and competency courses.
At present, Air Djibouti operates one B737-400 (chartered from VVB Aviation Malta (Malta International)) and one BAe 146-300 (chartered from Fair Aviation (FAV, Johannesburg Lanseria)) on scheduled flights to Addis Ababa International and Dire Dawa in Ethiopia as well as Berbera, Hargeisa, Mogadishu, and Bosaso in Somalia.
