Korean Air (KE, Seoul Incheon) has set a provisional date of March 7 for its maiden commercial B787-9 operations.
ch-aviation analysis of schedule data indicates the Korean carrier will use the General Electric GEnx-1B64-powered twinjets to run 4x daily crew familiarization flights between Seoul Gimpo and Jeju over the period March 7 - 25.
Thereafter, international operations are expected to begin on August 1 with a 3x weekly service to Madrid Barajas, a 4x weekly service to Beijing Capital on August 2, and lastly a 3x weekly flight to Zurich on October 3.
Korean Air has a total of one B787-8 and ten B787-9s on order from Boeing (BOE, Washington National). The -9s are configured with twenty-four seats in business class with 251 in economy. The B787-8 will be operated as a VIP aircraft for the country's government.
