Germania (Berlin Schönefeld) has announced it will enter the German domestic market for a brief period over the upcoming summer period.

In a statement, the leisure specialist said it would offer a weekly return service between Dortmund and Heringsdorf, located on the resort island of Usedom in the Baltic Sea, between September 2 and October 28. The route will employ B737-700 machinery.

“The island is a popular holiday destination and attracts many visitors long after the school summer holidays in North Rhine-Westphalia have ended,” Udo Mager, Managing Director of Dortmund Airport, said. "We are delighted to be working together with our airline partner Germania to offer flights to Heringsdorf this year."

The island is also famous for the Peenemünde Army Research Centre, where, during World War 2, Nazi scientists under Wernher von Braun, developed and tested, the world's first functional long-range guided ballistic missile, the V-2.

Using a diverse fleet of eight A319-100s, four A321-200s, ten B737-700s, and one B737-800 (wet-leased from Go2Sky (6G, Bratislava)), Germania offers connections from twenty airports around Europe to over forty destinations within the continent, North Africa, and the Middle East.
