Alaska Airlines (AS, Seattle Tacoma International) has announced it will be dramatically expanding its San Francisco Bay Area footprint just three months after it concluded the purchase of Virgin America (San Francisco).

In a statement, Alaska Airlines said it would be adding thirteen new nonstop flights from San Francisco and San José, US Airports.

From August 31 onwards, the following destinations ex-San Francisco Int'l will commence: Philadelphia International; New Orleans International; Nashville International; Indianapolis International; Raleigh/Durham, N.C.; Baltimore Thurgood Marshall; Kona, Hawaii; Albuquerque International; Kansas City International; and (pending) México City International. From August 28 onwards, the following flights out of San José will be added: Los Angeles International, Tucson International, and Austin-Bergstrom International.

Collectively, the routes mark the single largest new market announcement in Alaska Airlines' history. With the additional flights, Alaska Airlines and Virgin America will offer guests 125 daily nonstop flights to forty-two destinations from the three major Bay Area airports which also include Oakland International.

"Our strategy is to use the same philosophy that's worked well for us in our Pacific Northwest hubs, which is to offer convenient, nonstop flights to the places guests fly to most," Andrew Harrison, executive vice president and chief commercial officer at Alaska Airlines, said in a communique.

The new flights build on previously announced Bay Area routes scheduled to begin in the coming months, which include San Jose-New York Newark, San Jose-Burbank, San Francisco-Orlando International, San Francisco-Santa Ana, CA, and San Francisco-Minneapolis/St. Paul.
