Alitalia (AZA, Rome Fiumicino) has announced it will maintain commercial flights to Reggio di Calabria beyond March 27 when they were originally scheduled to be terminated.

In a statement issued this weekend, the Italian carrier said that following talks between management and the local and Italian national governments, a solution to render the services financially sustainable had been found.

As it stands, guaranteed daily flights from each of Rome Fiumicino and Milan Linate to the Calabrese town will continue from March 30 onwards.

Earlier this month, Alitalia said the flights had generated losses of EUR6 million in 2016 and, barring some form of government intervention, would therefore be discontinued.
