EWA Air (ZD, Dzaoudzi) has resumed flights between Mayotte and other islands in the Comorian archipelago following the re-opening of their mutual borders.
FlightRadar24 ADS-B data confirms the Air Austral subsidiary, on June 15, reconnected Mayotte’s Dzaoudzi airport with Moroni International in the Union of the Comoros. But while it is scheduled to conduct flights from Anjouan on Comoros to Dzaoudzi on June 16, reports from Mayotte state the airport will remain closed for the time being. The airline made no official announcement.
This comes after Mayotte closed its borders on January 16, 2021, with all surrounding countries including Comoros, which had experienced an upsurge in COVID-19 at the time, according to news reports from Mayotte.
AB Aviation (Moroni International) will restart flights on June 21, reported La 1ere France, but this could not be confirmed. The airline made no announcement but reposted the news report on social media.
The Mayotte local government has issued a statement confirming that travel restrictions between Mayotte and France and other French overseas territories were relaxed as of June 9. All people with proof of a completed vaccination schedule are now allowed to travel to/from Mayotte for non-essential reasons, and without having to quarantine for seven days on arrival.
Unvaccinated travellers are still only allowed to travel for essential reasons only. All travellers must present a negative COVID and antigen tests on arrival.
