Jet2 plc has entered into an agreement with Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) for the purchase of thirty-six A321-200Ns with options for an additional twenty-four.
The UK leisure holding said in a stock exchange disclosure the order would allow its Jet2 (United Kingdom) (LS, Leeds/Bradford) subsidiary to both meet anticipated future demand in the leisure travel segment and to refresh its existing aircraft fleet, which is anchored around Boeing (BOE, Washington National) at present.
As it stands, the firm-ordered A321neo will deliver over five years until 2028. Financing for the purchase will be through a combination of internal resources and debt, it said.
Jet2 operates two A321-200s (average age of 6.2 years), seven B737-300s (average age of 23.4 years), seventy-five B737-800s (average age of 12.1 years), and eight B757-200s (average age of 30.9 years), the ch-aviation fleets module shows. Of the lot, 40 aircraft are owned while 50 are leased. Its network focusses on connecting major UK cities with holiday destinations in Spain (its largest market), Greece, Turkey, Portugal, Cyprus, Croatia, Malta, Jersey, Iceland, and Italy.
