Canada Jetlines (AU, Toronto Pearson) has announced it will launch operations in March 2022, albeit initially as a virtual carrier chartering an A320-200 from GlobalX (G6, Miami International), its former parent company.
The Canadian carrier's in-house travel unit, Canada Jetlines Vacations, will charter an A320-200 from GLOBALX and sell seats for public charter flights from Toronto Pearson to Miami International and Fort Lauderdale International. The partnership will begin in March 2022 (with ticket sales expected to launch in December 2021), pending receipt of all regulatory approvals, including approval from the Travel Industry Council of Ontario (TICO), and will initially run for just six weeks.
Canada Jetlines said that as soon as it completes its certification as an airline, it will take over the routes and operate them using in-house A320-200 aircraft.
"This partnership is exactly what we envisioned when we spun off Canada Jetlines - creating Canada's newest low-cost airline. The alliance between the two airlines allows us to fly for each other to open new charter routes, provide additional capacity at certain peak periods for each airline and to maximise the benefits of the two networks," GLOBALX Chairman and Chief Executive Ed Wegel said.
GLOBALX completed the spin-off of Jetlines to shareholders in June 2021. The American carrier currently operates two A320-200s and one A321-200s but has ambitious growth plans. It plans to begin cargo operations in 2022 and operate up to ten A321-200(P2F)s by the end of 2023. Its passenger fleet is projected to grow to ten aircraft by the end of 2022.
