Malaysia Aviation Group has secured twenty-five B737-8s from lessor Air Lease Corporation for its mainline Malaysia Airlines (MH, Kuala Lumpur International) with deliveries scheduled to commence in early 2023 and continue through 2026.
The Malaysian carrier said the commitment is tied to its restructured Boeing order book. The airline has twenty-five B737-8s due from the manufacturer, which have now presumably been replaced with the leases. Malaysia Airlines did not respond to ch-aviation's request for confirmation.
Last year, Malaysia Airlines announced plans to start taking deliveries of its direct-ordered B737-8s in 2024. The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia ungrounded the type in September 2021.
The carrier's current narrowbody fleet comprises forty-seven B737-800s.
