Avianca (Bogotá) and its sister carriers TAC Airlines (Dhaka), TACA International Airlines (San Salvador International) and Trans American Airlines (Lima International) as well as rival Copa Airlines (CM, Panamá City Tocumen International) have all joined Star Alliance on the same day on June 21 immediately making Star Alliance the strongest player in Central America and the North of South America where it is however widely expected to shortly lose TAM Linhas Aéreas (São Paulo Congonhas) as a result of it being acquired by LAN Airlines (Santiago de Chile).
