Swift Air (United States of America) (Greensboro Piedmont Triad International) has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on June 27. The ACMI and charter operator has a B727-200, three B737-400s, two B767-200s and six E135s in its fleet that it mainly operates on behalf of other carriers, sports teams and private individuals. Its biggest creditors are lessor ILFC and Saipan Air (Saipan) which had planned to start operations on July 1 with two ex-North American Airlines (New York JFK) B757-200s of Swift Air from Saipan to China and Japan. While Swift Air has been unable to provide the B757-200s to Saipan Air, it continues to operate limited charter operations and hopes to restructure under Chapter 11.
