Air Cairo (SM, Cairo International) took delivery of its first of six ATR72-600s on July 15 following the arrival of SU-BVC (msn 1156) at Cairo International.
The eight-year-old ATR - Avions de Transport Régional turboprop is owned by Nordic Aviation Capital and was last operated by ex-Golden Myanmar Airlines (GMR, Yangon) as XY-AJS, the ch-aviation fleets module shows. It arrived in Egypt sporting "Air Cairo Link" titles as part of the carrier's efforts to enhance domestic connectivity. The EgyptAir (MS, Cairo International) subsidiary also has plans to equip its Juba Wings (Juba) project in South Sudan with ATR72s although no further news has since emerged.
Air Cairo's fleet currently numbers six A320-200s and four A320-200Ns (with three more due from AerCap).
In terms of domestic network, its flights connect Cairo International, Alexandria Borg el Arab, Aswan, Hurghada, Luxor, Marsa Alam, Sharm el Sheikh, Siwa, and Sohag.
