EW Discover (Frankfurt International) will temporarily assume some of the transatlantic long-haul routes operated by its parent Lufthansa (LH, Frankfurt International) as it struggles with a shortage of available widebody aircraft.
AeroRoutes reports that the Lufthansa Group leisure unit will operate the following routes from Frankfurt International, normally plied by the mainline airline:
- Orlando International (daily from October 31, using A350-900 operated by Finnair),
- Philadelphia International (5x weekly from October 31, also using the wet-leased A350),
- Toronto Pearson (daily from October 30, using A330-300), and
- Vancouver International (6x weekly from November 7, increasing to daily from November 15, using A330-300).
In addition, EW Discover will operate the Frankfurt-Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson route under Lufthansa's LH code, as reported earlier.
The increased utilisation related to the taking over of Lufthansa's route has forced EW Discover to defer or suspend some of its planned in-house services from Munich and Frankfurt, including those to Punta Cana, Cancún, Marsa Alam, Hurghada, and Malé.
