SalamAir (OV, Muscat) has taken delivery of an A321-200(P2F), becoming the first Middle East-based airline to operate the aircraft type. A4O-OCA (msn 1994) is the 11th plane to join the Omani carrier's fleet and its first dedicated freighter. The jet's inaugural flight was to Prague Václav Havel.
"The introduction of the A321 freighter by SalamAir is a historical moment in the aviation history of Oman and the region," SalamAir said in a statement. "It backs the Sultanate’s Vision 2040 to make the country a logistic hub in the region."
The 19.4-year-old aircraft, formerly registered as D-AEUB, finished passenger operations in late 2019 after a short spell at Eurowings (EW, Düsseldorf) and thereafter went into storage. In February 2022, it was ferried to Guangzhou for conversion. By August, the process was completed and the A321 was ferried to Amman Queen Alia for a further two months of storage before heading to Muscat on October 19. According to the ch-aviation fleets module, A4O-OCA is owned by BBAM
To date, SalamAir has operated as a scheduled low-cost passenger carrier. Aside from its new freighter, the airline operates a fleet of six A320-200Ns, two A321-200Ns, and two A321-200NX. SalamAir flies to 38 destinations in 19 countries and is one of just two scheduled passenger carriers based in Oman - the other being Oman Air (WY, Muscat).
