Skymark Airlines (BC, Tokyo Haneda) has signed a Letter of Intent with Boeing (BOE, Washington National) for ten B737 MAX with options for a further two. The Japanese low-cost carrier said it was planning to order four aircraft, including both B737-8s and B737-10s (although without disclosing the exact split) with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2026. The two additional options will also be secured directly from the manufacturer.
On top of that, it intends to add six B737 MAX 8s from lessors, deliveries of which are tentatively scheduled to being in the first quarter of 2025.
The MAX ordered from Boeing will replace older aircraft, while the leased units will be for fleet growth, Skymark outlined. The ch-aviation fleets module shows the LCC currently operates twenty-nine B737-800s, of which five are owned and 24 leased. The fleet is 10.8 years old on average.
The LCC separately announced that it received approval from the Tokyo Stock Exchange to resume trading on the TSE Growth Market on December 14, 2022. Skymark shares were suspended in March 2015 due to its poor financial standing and ongoing restructuring at the time. The airline completed the restructuring in early 2016 through a debt-for-equity swap with ANA Holdings, which currently owns a 16.5% stake in Skymark.
