Berjaya Air (J8, Kuala Lumpur Subang) has acquired an ATR72-500 on lease from Nordic Aviation Capital. The aircraft was ferried from Billund to Kuala Lumpur Subang Airport via Paphos, Luxor, Dubai World Central, and Hambantota over two days in late October. The 21.65 year-old ATR is currently registered as 2-YCKO (msn 662) but ch-aviation fleets data reveals that the registration is soon to change to 9M-JOJ.
A longstanding passenger charter airline operating out of Subang Airport, until now Berjaya Air has been flying a single ATR42-500. The Malaysian regional airline has carved out a business niche for itself operating flights between Subang and Rendang Island where parent company, Berjaya Corporation, owns and operates a large integrated tourist resort. Keeping 9M-JOJ company on the apron at Subang is ATR42-500 9M-JOG (msn 564), which the airline has on lease from Abelo Capital Aviation until the end of 2024.
The ATR72-500's last operator was Darwin Airline (Lugano), however, that airline went out of business in 2017 and the plane has since been unplaced. Berjaya Air has previously operated two ATR72-500s which were leased from Abelo Aviation Capital, with the last one returned in May 2015. Between 1995 and 2014, the airline also variously operated four DHC-7-100s.
