Qatar Airways (QR, Doha Hamad International) has resumed taking delivery of new-build aircraft from Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) for the first time since December 2020, when the airline and the manufacturer fell out over A350 superstructure degradation concerns.
A350-1000 A7-ANT (msn 430) was positioned from Toulouse Blagnac to Doha Hamad International on May 12, 2023, and entered into revenue service on May 16, Flightradar24 ADS-B data shows. It is the twentieth A350-1000 in the carrier's fleet. Qatar Airways also operates thirty-four A350-900s and has twenty-two -1000s remaining on order from Airbus, the ch-aviation fleets module shows.
After the Qatari Civil Aviation Authority (QCAA), as the world's only regulator, grounded the A350s due to fuselage paint deterioration in mid-2021, the airline and the manufacturer entered into a progressively acrimonious PR and eventually legal dispute over compensation. Airbus cancelled Qatar Airways' outstanding A350 and fifty A321neo orders in early 2022, as the dispute escalated.
The orders were reinstated as a part of a settlement reached in February 2023, which also paved the way for the resumption of A350 deliveries. The A321neo are scheduled to start arriving in 2026.
