Global Airlines (London City) has bought three more A380-800s ahead of its planned spring 2024 launch as a premium transatlantic carrier.
The start-up did not disclose the identity of the three aircraft. Global Airlines' first A380 was acquired from Doric Asset Finance. The ch-aviation fleets ownership module shows the lessor owns a further 17 of the type, including one stored and 16 still placed with Emirates (EK, Dubai International).
"As I've always said, the A380 is the best aircraft in the sky, and we will continue to look for further acquisition opportunities," Founder and Chief Executive James Asquith said.
While the airline has yet to reveal its exact business plan, it plans to focus on the UK-US transatlantic market. Asquith told ch-aviation that announcements would be forthcoming shortly, adding that the start-up has been preparing to launch for two years already. At this point, however, he did not disclose whether the airline would seek its own AOC or use a production partner.
