LATAM Airlines Group has taken delivery of its first A321-200NX directly from Airbus and simultaneously ordered 13 incremental units of the type from the manufacturer.
PS-LBB (msn 11531) was ferried from Hamburg Finkenwerder via Sal Amilcar Cabral International to Fortaleza International on September 30, 2023, and after brief customs clearance procedures, onwards to São Carlos Francisco Pereira Lopez on October 2, Flightradar24 ADS-B data shows. The aircraft is configured to seat up to 224 passengers and will be operated by LATAM Airlines Brasil.
The ch-aviation fleets module shows that LATAM Airlines has eighty-seven A320neo Family aircraft remaining on order from the manufacturer and Air Lease Corporation. This number includes seventeen A320-200Ns (all from the manufacturer), sixty A321-200NX (including three from the lessor), and ten A321-200NY(XLR)s (five from the lessor). The aircraft will join twenty A320-200Ns already operated by LATAM Airlines Brasil and LATAM Airlines Perú.
Chief Executive Officer Roberto Alvo recently told ch-aviation that the group will deploy the A321neo on trunk domestic routes in Brazil first. Then, they will be deployed domestically in Chile and later on short-haul international services within South America.
