Tanzania’s Civil Aviation Authority (TCAA) has lifted its revocation of Kenya Airways (KQ, Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta) passenger traffic rights between Nairobi and Dar es Salaam, a day after it imposed it, after Kenya granted Air Tanzania (TC, Dar es Salaam) the requested fifth-freedom cargo traffic rights.

“Following this development,” the TCAA said, “the aeronautical authorities of the United Republic of Tanzania hereby withdraw its decision of 15 January 2024, and therefore approval for Kenya Airways to operate third and fourth freedom traffic rights between Nairobi and Dar es Salaam is hereby restored with immediate effect.”

The regulator revealed that its Kenyan counterpart granted Air Tanzania unlimited fifth-freedom traffic rights for all-cargo services from and to Kenya, effective on January 16, 2024.

On January 15, the TCAA said it was banning the Kenyan flag carrier’s passenger flights, effective next week, after Nairobi refused to allow Air Tanzania to operate cargo flights between the two neighbouring countries.

Air Tanzania's cargo fleet comprises a single B767-300F, 5H-TCO (msn 67788), added in mid-2023. Flightradar24 ADS-B data shows that the freighter is regularly used on the Dar es Salaam-Nairobi route. It has also operated from Nairobi to Kilimanjaro.
